ESP/Energy Systems Products, Inc. has developed a new product designed to reduce heat loss caused by failed metal bellow type penetration seals.

Metal bellow type penetration seals have long been supplied as OEM equipment for HRSG units.  This type of seal works well for HRSGs designed for base load and cogen units which are not subject to frequent start-up and shut down cycles.  Frequent cycling will cause fatigue cracking and heat loss.  Also, because of the extended surface area created by the convolutions and thin metal, bellow seals increase radiant heat loss even when they are not cracked and leaking.

Many operators have tried replacing failed metal bellow seals with insulated fabric expansion joint material.  Due to the large amount of axial movement and high external temperature this material soon fails, burns and leaks requiring frequent replacement.

ESP has developed an easy-to-install, long lasting seal that reduces heat loss at HRSG penetration points for both floor and roof applications.  This is achieved by combining the advantages of insulation and the strength of a metal canister.  The insulation acts like a packing seal to reduce heat loss and the canister protects the insulation from heat and the environment
